about

A song about the pull of the streets on urban teens and young adults. They are unfortunately sometimes drawn in- even when they are doing everything the "right" way. Steel Rain, a metaphor for street/gang life and gunfire, is from the perspective of a teen who tries so hard to avoid the pull of the "corners" and "darkness", but who eventually succumbs to the street life in order to avenge something that happens to his 6-year old brother. Key line in the song- "I'm not myself, but I guess it's who I am".

lyrics

Steel Rain

V-1
These streets are cold, even in summertime.
Concrete and stone, with rocks sold through friends of mine.
The corners call, sayin’ it’s my time.
What do they want from me?

V-2
When night bleeds in, the city starts to crawl.
As smoke does rise, my friends start to fall.
I duck away but darkness still calls.
What does it want from me?
Will it initiate me?

Chorus
Run from the steel rain falling down.
Run from the rain.
Run from the steel rain it’s calling ME out.
Run from the rain.

Bridge
My brother’s playing in his bedroom.
He’s just 6 years-old.
Dives under his bed in fear as shots ring outside our home.
Knowing that he has to hide.
Too late it’s pouring inside.

V-3
Life and death, in the palm of my hand.
My family’s “rep”, is now on the stand.
I’m not myself but I guess it’s who I am.
The one I’m headed to see.
He won’t ever forget me.

Chorus x2
Run from the steel rain falling down.
Run from the rain.
Run from the steel rain it’s calling YOU out.
Run from the rain.

Run from the steel rain pouring down.
Run from the rain.
Run from the steel rain it’s calling US out.
Run from the rain.

Huge thank you to Alec Lewis for hearing my vision for the song and helping me come as close as my talent will allow!

Lastly- this song is for every young person who is forced to make the most difficult and sometimes life-altering decisions on the streets through no fault of their own.

Four song EP entitled Time Machine to be released in 2024.
